My in-laws, Sam, 90, and Josephine, 91, were blessed with good health and a social, active lifestyle. But when Sam was no longer able to drive safely, the independent lifestyle they so enjoyed “died” as they became totally dependent on family. Seeing their well-being deteriorate, my husband and I started looking for the perfect assisted living facility for them. After seeing many, we chose Atria Baypoint Village. We told Sam and Jo that moving to Atria would give them an active, social lifestyle again. But every time we brought up the subject, they said they would rather die in their house than move.
Because of certain events, Sam and Jo had to come live with us in June 2007. They were not happy campers when we made arrangements for them to move to Atria, but it didn’t take long for them to get settled. Just last week I asked Jo if she missed their home. She said, “No, not at all. We should have moved here sooner.” Thanks to the caring staff at Atria, Sam and Jo are enjoying an active lifestyle again.
